Squash Wraps Up Play At Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--The Smith College squash team finished up the weekend at the Wesleyan Invitational with matches against William Smith College and Mount Holyoke College on Sunday.

In the first match against their namesake, Smith got a strong effort at No. 1 from Vivian Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Yongsan International School of Seoul), who fell to Delaney Teceno 14-12, 2-11, 6-11, 6-11, while at No. 2, Geena Choo (Singapore, Singapore/Choate Rosemary Hall) was bested by Brooke Hayes 3-11, 6-11, 2-11.  

The rest of the match against the Herons saw Carly Melillo (Chester, Conn./Valley) fell to Justine Shank 3-11, 3-11, 4-11 at No. 3, and Jin Lee (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) to Phoebe Carlisle 0-11, 2-11, 3-11 at No. 4.  Evan Morgenstein was topped by Tyler Mitchell 3-11, 4-11, 1-11 at No. 5, and Gracie Maull (Exeter, N.H./Miss Porters (CT)) fell to Nellie Lindecke 1-11, 2-11, 3-11 at the No. 6 spot.  

Leah Jeon (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Collingwood) was bested by Erin Casey 0-11, 2-11, 3-11 at No. 7, and at No. 8, Megan Perry (South Hadley, Mass./Homeschool) was swept by Hannah Meger 0-11, 0-11, 0-11.  Katie Hill finished the match by beating Hira Humayan 2-11, 1-11, 0-11 at the No. 9 position.

In the Pioneers' second match of the day, Smith was beaten 9-0 by the Lyons of Mount Holyoke.  Lee fell to Katrina Intal 7-11, 5-11, 9-11, and Choo fell to Elyse Taylor 4-11, 4-11, 3-11 at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

Mellilo was knocked off by Allison Schilling 2-11, 3-11, 3-11 at No. 3, and at No. 4, Jin Lee (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) fell to Sanjna Merchant 3-11, 2-11, 2-11.  Xianger Fei recorded a 1-11, 1-11, 2-11 win over Morgenstein at No. 5, and Catherine Ryan did the same over Maull by a score of 2-11, 3-11, 1-11 at No. 6.

Jeon put in a close match against Anna Hartman, losing 7-11, 6-11, 4-11 at No. 7.  Amy Sanchez swept Perry 3-11, 4-11, 6-11 at No. 8, and Amanda Lee topped Humayan 1-11, 0-11, 0-11 at No. 9.

The Pioneers will be off until January 19, when they host the Pioneer Valley Invitational.
