Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) became the 10th player in school history to score 1,000 points as the Smith College basketball team reached the 20 win plateau for the second consecutive year with a 71-56 triumph over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night.
Drummond scored eight points, exactly the number she needed to join Christina Hobson '99, Phoebe Jacob '93, Tammy Drummond '84 (no relation), Jennifer Ramsey '92, Lauren Kernochan '00, Berit Schelde '10, Ann Miller '96, Marcella Zalot '87, and Dasen Woitkowski '01 on the Smith all-time scoring list.
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and Phoebe Jacob are the only Smith players to reach their mark in their junior years; Woitkowski also reached the mark in three years after transferring from the University of Massachusetts.
Smith is now 20-2, and 14-1 against NEWMAC competition, while Clark's record evens up at 11-11, and the Cougars fall to 6-9 in NEWMAC play. It's the second straight year Smith has won 20 games; the Pioneers went 23-6 in 2011-12, setting a new school mark for victories in the process.

There was one other milestone reached on Wednesday night. Smith head coach
Lynn Hersey notched 100th career win - the Pioneers' sixth year skipper holds a career record of 100-75 (.571) - 88 of those wins were achieved at Smith, while 12 were credited to Hersey when she served as the co-head coach at Amherst College in 2006-07.
The Pioneers led 8-7 on
Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton)'s layup with 14:52 left in the first half, but both teams would struggle, as Smith missed eight consecutive shots and Clark failed to connect on five, and committed five turnovers in a three minute span.
Alyssa Barrett (Berlin, Conn./Berlin)'s three with 11:15 to play ended the drought, but the Cougars knotted the score on a layup by Ashleigh Condon.
Smith pushed ahead on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes, starting with Devon Quattrochi's 15 footer and capped by two free throws from
Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate). Solis' layup with 27 seconds left in the half put the Pioneers up 31-21 at intermission.
Smith would increase their lead to as many as 17 early in the first half when Weston put back her own miss, but Clark pulled within five at 51-46 on the strength of an 23-8 burst fueled by Condon and Brooke Brennan. A layup from Zakoske and a three pointer from Quattrocchi put the lead back to 10 points, and Smith never looked back, as Drummond's historic free throw with 4:27 to play put Smith up 64-49, and five straight points from Solis made it 69-52.
Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) led Smith with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and
Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) hit double-figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Emily Reilly topped the scoresheet with 19 points for Clark, followed by Megan Grondin with 12 and Ashleigh Condon with 11. Reilly added nine boards for the Cougars.
