NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College tennis team ended the 2012-13 season with a pair of matches against Rhode Island opposition on Saturday. The Pioneers fell to Salve Regina University 6-3 in the morning match, and 8-1 to Roger Williams in the afternoon contest.
Smith finishes 2012-13 with a record of 3-18.

The Pioneers got wins from
Jordan Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) at both the singles and doubles positions. The sophomore captain defeated Kasey Walther 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and teamed with
Tessy Lopez (Pomona, Calif./Ganesha) for an 8-4 win over Walther and Elizabeth Liguori at No. 1 doubles.
Jinan Martiuk (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) cinched Smith's other point of the match at the No. 6 singles position, with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Anastasia Lara. At No. 2 singles,
Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends) pushed Liguori to three sets in a 2-6, 6-1, 1-6 defeat. The Seahawks also took victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, where Elizabeth DiFillipo beat Lopez 6-2, 6-2, and Shannon O'Brien beat
Andrea Tanco (Veracruz, Mexico/Li Po Chun (Hong Kong)), respectively. Meg Olson needed a tiebreaker to get past
Carly Melillo (Chester, Conn./Valley) 7-6 (3), 6-3 at No. 5.
DiFillippo and Meg Olson beat Gouchoe-Hanas and Tanco 9-7 at No. 2 doubles, and Melillo and
Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla./Community School) fell to O'Brien and Isabelle Weatherby 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Dubin recorded Smith's only win against the Hawks, taking a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Tracy Klein at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Gouchoe-Hanas fell to Samantha Curran 6-0, 6-0, while Lopez and Melillo lost by the same score to Lauren Schmidt and Alexandra Brown, respectively, at the No. 3 and 4 positions.
Martiuk was knocked off by Adriana Maconochie 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, and
Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla./Community School) fell to Olivia Hilton 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Roger Williams also took all three doubles matches, starting with Klein and Curran beating Dubin and Lopez 8-4 at No. 1, and Schmidt and Brown beating Gouchoe-Hanas and Tanco 8-1 at No. 3. Doubles play finished with Maconochie and Hilton beating Melillo and Martiuk at the No. 3 spot.
