NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that it has awarded a $10,000 Collegiate Community Hub grant to Smith College.

The USTA's Collegiate Community Hub initiative, which launched in 2021, is designed to encourage colleges and universities to open their varsity tennis facilities to the public. The grant funds are intended to assist with some of the increased costs associated with operating a public facility.

"The Collegiate Community Hub program aims to increase the number of high-quality tennis courts that are available to communities across the country, which is a vital part of the continued growth of tennis," said Tracy Davies, General Manager, USA Tennis, USTA. "Not only does this initiative benefit the general public, but also creates revenue-generating and community-building opportunities for collegiate tennis programs."

"We are so thankful for this generous gift from the USTA to help us expand our programming initiatives to make Smith a hub for community tennis!" said head tennis coach Caitlyn Lawrence. "We are excited to continue offering community events like our Halloween Hit For Hunger. We will also be restarting our fall clinic series (learn more here) and are excited to build upon our free girls clinic series we started last year to make more meaningful connections between our team and young girls in the community."
