Game Preview: Basketball vs. Trinity (CT)

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (5-7) will try to capture its fourth straight win when the Pioneers travel to Trinity (Conn.) (8-5) for a non-conference basketball game on Tuesday night.


Last Meeting: Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) had 17 points, six rebounds, and six steals as Smith beat Trinity 68-47 on December 8, 2012.  It was the first time Smith had beaten Trinity in more than 10 years.

The Series: Trinity has won 30 of the 38 all-time meetings between the two schools.  Last season's win ended a nine game win streak by the Bantams.

Fast Facts: Trinity has won seven of eight, including a 65-49 upset of No. 10 Williams College on Jan. 10...Trinity's last four losses are by eight points or less, including one OT defeat...senior Taylor Murtaugh is averaging 14.4 points per game while shooting 52% from the floor...The Bantams struggle shooting from distance, knocking down just 26.6 percent of their three point attempts...Smith picked up their third straight win with a 59-48 victory over Coast Guard on Saturday...Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) was named NEWMAC Player of the Week, as well as to the NEWBA Honor Roll for her role in helping leading Smith to a 3-0 week...Smith has not beaten Trinity in consecutive years since the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons...Smith is averaging 65.7 points per game, while Trinity scores 65.5 ppg...

Next Up:  Smith returns to league play by hosting Emerson College on Saturday at 1 p.m.  Trinity will also resume conference action, traveling to Bates College for a 6 p.m. tip on January 17.
