Game Preview: Basketball vs. Clark

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team begins their second round of conference games when the Pioneers (6-8, 6-4 NEWMAC) travel to Clark University (6-9, 3-7 NEWMAC) on Sunday afternoon.  


Last Meeting:  Smith picked up their first win of the season with an 89-74 triumph on November 20.  Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) led five Smith players in double-figures with 21 points.  

The Series:  Clark leads 29-13, but Smith has won seven in a row and nine of the last 11 meetings against the Cougars.  

Fast Facts: Clark has lost three of five, including a 68-65 loss to Babson College on Saturday...The Cougars were down 39-23 at halftime, then pulled all the way back to within one before defeat...Emily Reilly is averaging 15.3 points per game, along with 5.1 rebounds while shooting 44.7 percent from the field...the Cougars are allowing 61.7 points per game...Smith has score at least 89 points in three of the last five meetings against the Cougars...Smith earned a 62-55 win over Emerson on Saturday...Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) scored 20 points, while Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds...head coach Lynn Hersey needs three more victories for 100 wins at Smith...Smith is the second best offensive rebounding team in the NEWMAC at 14.5 offensive boards per contest...

Next Up:  Smith hosts Babson on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m.   Clark will welcome cross-town rival WPI  for a 7 p.m. start.
