Game Preview: Basketball vs. No. 15/16 Williams

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College basketball team (8-9, 8-5 NEWMAC) will face its toughest test of the season on Monday night with a trip to nationally-ranked Williams (16-2, 3-2 NESCAC). Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Last Meeting: The host Pioneers upset the No. 20 Ephs 53-49 on January 28, 2013.

The Series: Williams owns a 23-12 advantage. Smith won the first meeting on March 1, 1972

Fast Facts: The Ephs have won 19 consecutive home games...Ellen Cook and Kellie MacDonald combined to score 34 points in the Ephs 66-49 victory over Hamilton on Saturday...Cook leads Williams with 14.4 points per game and 3.6 assists per game...through January 23, Williams ranks third in the nation with 6.7 blocks per game...Drummond and Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) totaled 34 points in last year's triumph...head coach Lynn Hersey needs one more win for 100 at Smith...the Pioneers have won two in-a-row...Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) tied her career-high with 14 rebounds and scored 26 points, one shy of her career-best in a 65-61 win at Wheaton...Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) sealed the win with a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining.

Next Up:  The Pioneers return to home for a pair of NEWMAC contests beginning with a 7:00 p.m. appointment with Mount Holyoke on Wednesday night. Williams travels to Middlebury for a Friday night NESCAC matchup set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
