Game Preview: Basketball vs. Mount Holyoke

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College basketball team (8-10, 8-5 NEWMAC) begins a two-game NEWMAC homestand on Wednesday night against Mount Holyoke (5-13, 2-11 NEWMAC) at 7:00 p.m.

Last Meeting: Smith defeated the Lyons 71-38 in the fifth game of the season back on December 4, 2013.

The Series: The Pioneers lead 44-32 and have won the last nine meetings.

Fast Facts: Mount Holyoke snapped a seven-game skid on Saturday with a 61-59 victory at Clark…Amber Legare's layup with :02 left in regulation proved to be the difference for the Lyons…Legare averages 14.3 points per game and leads the NEWMAC with 10.3 caroms per game…Kate Karraker is averaging 14.4 points per game and is seventh in the nation with 3.33 three-pointers per game…Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth), the reigning NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, has scored a total of 51 points in the past two contests to go along with 25 rebounds…head coach Lynn Hersey needs one more win for 100 at Smith…Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) (15), Mandy Castro (San Diego, Calif./Poway) (10) and Drummond (14) all had double-digit nights in December's game…the Pioneers are 6-2 in NEWMAC action in the month of January and have won six of the last seven conference contests.

Next Up:  Both squads host league games on Saturday as Smith hosts first-place Wellesley at 2:00 p.m. and Mount Holyoke entertains MIT at 1:00 p.m.
