Game Preview: Basketball vs. WPI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College basketball team (2-6, 2-3 NEWMAC) will look to end a three game losing skid when the Pioneers host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (3-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.


Last Meeting: Smith cruised to a 76-55 win over WPI on February 13, 2013.  Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) led four players in double-figures with 16 points, adding 10 boards to complete the double-double.

The Series:  WPI leads 21-15, but Smith has won the last six meetings with the Engineers.

Fast Facts: WPI has lost four of five, including a pair of games at the Posada Royale Tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif...The Engineers have not won a game outside the city of Worcester this season, recording home wins over Anna Maria and Clark and a neutral site victory over Worcester State (the game was played at Clark)...WPI has twice as many turnovers (150) as assists (75)...WPI has not scored more than 62 points in any game this year...Smith is coming off a 76-63 loss at Middlebury...the Pioneers are on their longest losing streak since also losing three in a row in 2010-11 season...The Pioneers rank in the top 50 nationally in steals per game (12.6).

Next Up:  Smith heads to MIT for a NEWMAC game that starts at 7 p.m. on January 7.  WPI will also be on the road, traveling to Wheaton College on the same evening.
