Game Preview: Basketball vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College women's basketball team (12-10, 12-5 NEWMAC) looks to continue its momentum on Wednesday night with a trip down I-91 to take on Springfield (13-9, 9-8 NEWMAC). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Last Meeting: The Pioneers shot 63 percent and outscored the Pride 44-27 in the second half en route to an 82-64 home win on January 9.

The Series: Springfield owns a 26-10 margin while Smith has won seven of the last eight, including the last three at Blake Arena.

Fast Facts: The Pride are riding a three-game winning streak following a 69-45 victory over Wellesley at home on Saturday…Springfield is 8-3 at home this season and 3-2 in the last five games at Blake Arena…Jaimie Bickelhaupt (54.3 percent) and Ava Adamopoulos (52.1 percent) are second and third amongst their NEWMAC peers in field goal percentage…Springfield is tied with for the conference lead with a +6.3 rebounding margin…Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) leads the league with 15.7 points per game and Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) paces the NEWMAC with 2.8 swipes per game…The Pioneers have won six of their last seven games overall and are currently enjoying a six-game conference winning-streak… Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) engineered a 26-point, 15-rebound week, including 5-for-7 (.714) from the field and 4-for-5 (.800) from the charity stripe at WPI …Smith is scoring an average of 63.8 points per game compared to 61.5 points per game by its opponents.

Next Up: The Pioneers conclude their home regular season slate on Saturday with a key NEWMAC game against Coast Guard at 2:00 p.m. Springfield will be idle until next Wednesday when the Pride head to Mount Holyoke for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
