Game Preview: Basketball vs. Coast Guard

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College basketball team (13-10, 13-5 NEWMAC) will honor its three seniors before Saturday's important New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest against Coast Guard (17-5, 12-5 NEWMAC). The game is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m.

Last Game: The Pioneers defeated the Bears, 59-48, on January 11 in New London.

The Series: Smith has a slight 19-18 edge and has claimed the last nine meetings.

Fast Facts: Coast Guard rebounded from a two-point loss at Emerson by taking down Merchant Marine, 60-37, in a non-conference contest on Monday…the Bears also defeated Mount Holyoke, 64-40, on Wednesday…Coast Guard leads the league with 16.1 offensive rebounds per game overall and 15.5 offensive rebounds per game in conference action…Torie Sutherland paces the Bears with 12.1 points per game…Marissa Munoz-Ruiz (Fairfield, Calif./Justin-Siena) collected a career-high eight rebounds in the January meeting…the Pioneers have won their last seven NEWMAC tilts and are outscoring opponents by an average of 9.2 points per game…with two games remaining, Smith is one game out of first place in the NEWMAC standings…Munoz-Ruiz along with Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and Sydney Parkmond (Waterbury, Conn./Chase Collegiate) will be honored before the game for their contributions to Smith Athletics and the Smith basketball program.

Next Up:  Smith concludes the regular season next Saturday when the Pioneers trek to Emerson for a 1:00 p.m. matchup. Coast Guard travels to WPI for a 5:30 tip on Wednesday.
