LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. –
Vivian Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Yongsan International School of Seoul) and
Jessica Ryan (Northampton, Mass./) each notched a pair of victories as the Smith College squash team competed at the Howe Cup on Saturday. The Pioneers were very competitive in a 5-4 setback to New York University and later fell 6-3 to Minnesota.
Lee posted an 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 victory in the opener and won the last two games in a 3-2 (8-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6) win against the Golden Gophers. Ryan defeated her NYU foe 11-0, 11-5, 11-4 and bested her Minnesota opponent 11-6, 10-12, 11-4, 11-13, 11-8.
Gracie Maull (Exeter, N.H./Miss Porters (CT)) (11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-4) and
Roseanne Hui (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) (11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7) also earned wins in the opener with NYU.
Geena Choo (Singapore, Singapore/Choate Rosemary Hall) won her first game before ultimate falling 11-9, 11-13, 9-11, 14-16.
Choo went on to secure an 11-3, 11-5, 11-5 win in the second match of the day.
Carly Melillo (Chester, Conn./Valley),
Jin Lee (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) and
Roseanne Hui (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) matches all went four games
The Pioneers conclude the trip with an 8:30 a.m. match against Rochester or Northeastern on Sunday.
