BOSTON, Mass. – Twelve Smith College student-athletes were placed on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference teams, as released by the league office on Monday. The swimming and diving team ranked third in the conference with 10 nods while the basketball team garnered two selections.
Juniors
Emily Lane (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver School),
Vanessa McFarlane (Oro Valley, Ariz./Canyon del Oro),
Greta Stacy (Woodbury, Minn./Mounds Park Acad.) and
Helen Zhang (Shanghai, China/SMIC) were repeat honorees for the swimming and diving squad while sophomores
Hannah Francis (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton Prep),
Audrey Gammel (Millburn, N.J./Millburn),
Anna Partridge (Seattle, Wash./Mercer Island) and
Leah VanHoeve (Annville, Ky./Homeschool) earned the award in their first year of eligibility. Senior
Kiara Gomez (Astoria, N.Y./HS For Health) and junior Paige Christe also picked up honors for the Pioneers.
Basketball was represented, for the second consecutive year, by the duo of senior
Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) and junior
Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) as Drummond, who as recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-District I team member, took home her third all-conference accolade.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2013 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
