Game Preview: Basketball vs. WPI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College basketball team (10-10, 10-5 NEWMAC) hits the road for a conference game at WPI (8-11, 6-8 NEWMAC) on Thursday night. The game is slated to tip at 7:30 p.m.
 
Last Meeting: The Engineers tipped the Pioneers 69-61, in overtime, on January 4 inside Ainsworth Gym. 
 
The Series: WPI owns a 22-15 lead while the Pioneers claim a 6-1 advantage in the last seven meetings.
 
Fast Facts: Amaia Gritsko recorded a double-double as WPI looked to rally past Babson on Saturday…The Engineers are undefeated in overtime games (3-0) this season, which includes a home OT win over Clark…Dani Davis sent two of the three games into the extra session courtesy of a late three against Clark and a layup at Mount Holyoke…Davis leads the Engineers with 11.8 points per game…Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the final 34.6 seconds to help Smith defeat league-leading Wellesley on Saturday…Rosa Drummond (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) was held to 12 points, but made them all count, en route to breaking the program record for career  three-point field goals made (139)…The Pioneers have won eight of their last nine conference games and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak…Smith is currently fourth in the NEWMAC standings with five regular season games remaining.
 
Next Up: Smith hosts MIT and WPI hosts Wheaton on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
