Game Preview: Basketball vs. Springfield

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The top-seeded Smith College basketball team (16-10) will take on sixth-seeded Springfield (15-11) in the 2014 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Championship game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The winner will receive an automatic berth the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Last Meeting: The Pioneers held on for a 57-54 win over the Pride at Blake Arena on February 12.

The Series: The Pride claim a 26-11 lead while Smith has won eight of the last nine, including both regular season games in 2013-14.

Fast Facts: Jaimie Bickelhaupt used 16 of her 20 points yesterday to fuel a key 25-9 first-half run in a 78-63 upset of second-seeded Wheaton in the second semifinal game…Bickelhaupt is averaging 16.5 points per game in this year's NEWMAC Women's Basketball Championship…Emily Gins has pulled down eight offensive rebounds to average 4.0 per game in the tournament…since Wednesday's first round games, Ava Adamopoulos and Bickelhaupt are averaging 9.0 rebounds per contest…Mandy Castro (San Diego, Calif./Poway) reset her career high with 14 points as Paulina Solis (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) paced the Pioneers with 17 as Smith defeated Babson yesterday in the first semifinal…Smith is playing in its third title game in four seasons…the Pioneers ended Babson's four-year run as the NEWMAC regular season champion…Smith would make its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship tournament with a win…
