NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss Saturday to the Wheaton College Lyons.
Sophomore
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology), who also sang the national anthem before the match, picked up a win for the Pioneers at No. 6 singles, defeating Stassy Furber, 6-3, 6-2.
"Margaret Anne can not only sing but she plays a smart game of tennis," said head coach
Chris Davis. "She, once again, calculated the conditions and her opposition, settling into long rallies en route to a 6-3, 6-2 win!"
The Pioneers (0-3, 0-3 NEWMAC) will host the Mount Holyoke College Lyons on Tuesday. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
