Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith sophomore goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded a career-high 25 saves in the Pioneers' 3-1 loss to No. 16 Amherst College Thursday evening in non-conference field hockey action. The three goals scored by the Jeffs were the lowest allowed by Smith against Amherst dating back to the 2006 season.

Smith, who was ranked No. 3 in the New England East Region, falls to 8-7 on the season. Amherst improves their record to 9-4.

Annika Nygren put the visitors on the board just 4:17 into the game as that would be the only goal scored in the first half. The Jeffs had a breakaway opportunity early in the first half, but that was broken up by an outstanding defensive effort by Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, MD/Severna Park).

Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) evened the score four minutes into the second half when she took a Caroline Labriola (Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook) feed and sent it past the Amherst netminder.

Katie Paolano recorded her third game-winning goal of the year in the 58th minute, diving near the penalty marker to redirect the shot of classmate Caroline Fiore.

The Jeffs added their final goal on a corner awarded with six seconds remaining in the game.

Tietje was outstanding all night, often making back-to-back saves against Amherst, while Emily Horwitz registered one save in the win.

Smith was outshot 28-2 and took one corner compared to 17 by the visitors.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Springfield College at 5:30 p.m.
