NORTHAMPTON, MA - Anissa Sridhar's goal in double overtime powered No. 9 Wellesley to a 3-2 win over Smith College Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC field hockey action.

October 03, 2015

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, MA - After Smith's Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt./Milton) tied the game at 2-2 in the second half, Courtney Peterson's goal in double overtime powered the No. 9 Wellesley field hockey team to an evenly matched 3-2 NEWMAC victory Saturday afternoon. The Blue improve to 9-1 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0 while the loss drops the Pioneers to 4-5, 2-1 NEWMAC.

Emmy Hamilton gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with 4:56 remaining in the first half when she dribbled to the right of the keeper and her shot found the back of the net. Each team recorded five shots in the first half with Wellesley holding a 5-4 edge in corners.

Anissa Sridhar put the visitors up 2-0 just 3:29 into the second half when she redirected a shot from the top of the circle by Cecie Negron on a Blue corner to convert on the penalty corner.

Playing their third Top-20 opponent of the season, Smith lit the scoreboard in the 44th minute as Elsie Odhiambo (Oyugis, Kenya/Kisumu Girls School) received a feed from Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) in the middle of the circle and sent it past the goalkeeper to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Just four minutes later, Ollive collected the ball during a scrum in front of the net and fired it over Wellesley's netminder to tie the game at 2-2.

Despite a furious late charge from the Blue that forced Smith's Tietje to make four saves, and first year Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) to add a defensive save, in the final 15 minutes of regulation, the game went to overtime with the score tied, 2-2.

Pioneers goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded nine stops while counterpart Lucy Hurlock also finished with nine saves.

The Blue held a 16-11 advanage in penalty corners, including a 13-11 edge in shots on goal.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday night as they host NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke at 7 p.m.
