Field Hockey Set to Face Wellesley in NEWMAC Semifinals

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Third-seeded Smith College will play the two-time NEWMAC defending champion and second-seeded Wellesley on Saturday, November 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Field Hockey Tournament at Babson College’s MacDowell Field.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Third-seeded Smith College will play the two-time NEWMAC defending champion and second-seeded Wellesley on Saturday, November 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Field Hockey Tournament at Babson College's MacDowell Field.

Series History
The Pioneers and the Blue will meet for the 55th time on Saturday with Wellesley holding a 32-22 edge in a series that dates back to 1974. Smith's last win against the Blue came during the 2006 season.

Postseason History
These two teams will meet for the 10th time in NEWMAC Tournament history with the Blue holding a 6-3 edge including five straight victories going back to 1995.

Last Meeting
Junior Courtney Peterson scored 10:48 into the second overtime as Wellesley defeated Smith, 3-2, on October 3 in Northampton. The Pioneers found themselves down 2-0 before Elsie Odhiambo (Oyugis, Kenya/Kisumu Girls School) and Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt./Milton) each scored to tie the game. Goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made nine saves in the loss.

The semifinal winners will face-off in the 2015 NEWMAC Championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The tournament champion earns the NEWMAC's automatic qualifier to the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
