Last Meeting
After falling behind by as many as 15 points, the Pioneers fought back to pull within three, but the Bears held on for a 55-48 victory on January 13, 2015. Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory) scored nine points and added a team-high five assists, while Amanda Barriscale (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) grabbed nine boards and dished out three helpers.

The Series
Smith has a slight 20-19 edge and had won 11 straight before last season's loss.

The Bears
Coast Guard (3-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) has alternated wins and losses up until this point and is coming off a 67-51 victory at Clark in their first NEWMAC game of the season. Senior Meghan Fornaro scored all 16 of the Bears third quarter points as she finished with a game-high 25 points, moving to seventh place on Coast Guard's all-time scoring list with 1,075. Fornaro is the NEWMAC's leading scorer with 22.4 points per game. Coast Guard averages 70.6 points per game and is shooting 41.6 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from behind the arc. The Bears were picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll.

The Pioneers
Smith (2-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) snapped a two-game losing streak with their 59-44 win over Wentworth last Tuesday. First-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) put up career-high numbers of 17 points and 12 rebounds, while rookie Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Amanda Barriscale (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) is tied for third in the NEWMAC with 8.0 rebounds per game, while Guest-Pritchett is third in field goal percentage (57.1%) and Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) is tied for second, shooting 50.0 percent from 3-point range. The Pioneers average 66.8 points per game and are shooting 36.9 percent from the field and 29.0 percent from long distance. Smith was picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches' poll.
