December 05, 2015

Box Score
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – First-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) scored a career-high 24 points but it was not enough as Babson posted an 81-56 win over Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. The victory moves the Beavers to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers slip to 2-4 on the season and are 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

In addition to her 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, Guest-Pritchett also recorded a career-high 15 rebounds. First-year guard Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) notched nine points and five assists, while junior Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) added seven points and four rebounds.

For the Beavers, Giovanna Pickering posted a team-high 24 points, adding five rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Elizabeth Lane added 13 points and two rebounds, while Taylor Russell finished with eight points and five boards.

A 12-7 lead by the Beavers was erased as Bondi connected on a jumper and senior forward Tia Karapoulios (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) knocked down her first three-pointer of the season with 1:44 left to play in the first quarter. A good layup by Guest-Pritchett gave the pioneers a 14-12 lead going into the second quarter.

Bondi's layup gave Smith their largest lead of the game, 23-15, two minutes into the second quarter, but Babson quickly responded as the Beavers scored the next five points to cut the lead to three, 23-20. The Pioneers would claim a seven point lead, 27-20, with 6:12 on the clock, however, the Beavers ended the half on a 16-4 run and went into the lockeroom with a 36-31 lead.

Smith shot 40.63 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 34.29 shooting from Babson.

After two free-throws from Guest-Pritchett at the beginning of the third quarter, the Beavers outscored Smith 10-0 over the next four minutes to hold a 48-33 lead. Babson's largest lead of the game came on a good three-pointer from Lane at the 7:02 mark. Two free throws from Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) pulled the Pioneers within 18 (74-56) but the Beaver lead was too large to overcome.

Smith, which shot 34.5% from free throw range in the game, returns to the court on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Williams. Babson, which was 45.5% for the game from the field, is also in action on Wednesday, traveling to Brandeis for a 7 p.m. contest.
