Lacrosse Travels to Nichols

Myran, Hamilton each net three in loss to Bison

March 10, 2015

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. - The Smith College lacrosse team got three goals from both Caroline Myran (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends School) and Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough, as the Bison of Nichols College defeated the Pioneers by a 20-9 final.

Myran's three goals now give her seven on the year, while Hamilton's first career hat-trick give her five for the season. Rachel Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) added two goals and an assist to leave her one point shy of 80 for her career, while Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) notched her sixth goal of the season.

The Bison scored the game's first two goals before the Pioneers cut into the deficit at the 22 minute mark of the first half with Myran's first goal of the night.

Nichols increased their lead to 3-1 two and a half minutes later before Smith responded with a back-to-back goals to tie the contest, 3-3 with 18:06 to play in the first stanza. Silveria and Myran each scored to highlight Smith's 2-0 spurt.

The Bison answered with a 4-0 run over the next eight minutes of play, before Myran's third goal of the game and Hamilton's first brought the Pioneers to within two (7-5). Nichols scored three more goals in the final 82 seconds of the first half to take a 10-5 lead into the break.

Smith cut Nichols lead down to three in the first thirty seconds of the second half, with Hamilton and Estes each scoring for the Pioneers. The Bison, unfortunately, had other plans, thwarting Smith's comeback attempt by outscoring the Pioneers, 10-2 from that point to seal the win.

Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) made six saves in 47 minutes between the pipes for Smith, while Meredith Britton (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) turned away three shots in 13 minutes of action.

The Pioneers return home on Thursday, when they take on Simmons College at 5:30 p.m.
