Jade Chihara (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) scored a career-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) added 15 points and four rebounds in a 66-61 loss to Emerson on January 31, 2015. The Lions held a 46-29 advantage on the glass, while the Pioneers forced 18 turnovers.

The Series
This is just the fourth meeting in this series with the Pioneers holding a 2-1 advantage. The first matchup between these two schools was on January 18, 2014. Smith's last win against the Lions came on February 22, 2014 by a score of 81-68.

The Lions
Emerson (3-8, 1-4 NEWMAC) is looking to snap a four-game losing, streak following Saturday's 64-41 loss to Springfield. In that game, Sierra Ducey finished with 11 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, while Kelsey Johnson added 10 points and three rebounds. Ducey is fourth in the NEWMAC, averaging 9.0 rebounds per game, while Elizabeth Horan (39.6%) and Eastin Ashby (33.3%) rank in the top five in 3-point percentage. The Lions average 59.0 points per game and are shooting 36.5 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from 3-point range. Emerson was picked to finish eighth in the preseason coaches poll. 

The Pioneers
Smith (4-7, 1-3 NEWMAC) looks to get back in the win column after their 75-61 loss to Babson on Saturday. In that game, first-year Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, inlcuding four 3-pointers, while sophomore Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) added 13 points off the bench. First-year forward Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) is fifth in the NEWMAC with 8.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 49.5 percent from the field, Bondi leads the Pioneers, dishing out 3.3 assists per game, and Paige Marquez (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Preparatory) is shooting 33.3 (T-4th NEWMAC) percent from long distance. The Pioneers score 63.8 percent fer game and are shooting 37.8 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from 3-point range. Smith was voted to finish fifth in the NEWMAC preseason coaches poll.

Smith heads to WPI for a conference matchup with the Engineers on Thursday, January 14. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
