Guest-Pritchett's Double-Double Leads Pioneers Over Emerson, 61-53

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College received a double-double from first-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) as the Pioneers outlasted Emerson College, 61-53 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action Tuesday evening at Ainsworth Gymnasium. 

Guest-Pritchett finished with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive end, while first-year guard Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) added 16 points, four assists and three steals. Sophomore Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) was a major contributor off bench pouring in nine points to go along with five boards and three steals. 

The win moves Smith to 5-7 on the season and 2-3 in NEWMAC play, while the Lions dip to 3-9, 1-5. 

Emerson's Maya Savino was the only Lion to finish in double figure with 11 points. Sierra Ducey contributed eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and a game-high four blocks, while Eastin Ashby added seven points and hauled in five boards with four steals. 

Trailing 5-4, Smith went on a 7-0 run that included layups from Paige Marquez (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Preparatory), Bondi and Amanda Barriscale (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) to take an 11-5 lead with 4:23 remaining and Tavorsia Talley (New Hope, Pa./Solebury School) closed out the opening period with five-straight points to give the home team an 18-11 advantage heading into the second. 

A trey from Eastin Ashby netted the game at 18-18 as neither team was able to pull away and went into the break with Smith leading 29-28. 

Alakai's 3-pointer as time ran out on the shot clock gave the Pioneers a 40-36 lead as Smith ended the third period on a 9-0 run, heading into the fourth up 46-36.

A layup from Bondi gave Smith their largest lead of the game at 14 (50-36), however Charlie Boyle stopped the eight minute scoring draught for her team and began a run to come within six points (50-44) with 5:40 to play. The Lions continued their pressure as a Janissa Delzo layup cut the lead to four points, 52-48 with 4:27 remaining. 

Five-straight points on a layup and 3-pointer from Bondi sealed the win for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers held a significant advantage on the glass, outrebounding Emerson 57-27. 

Both teams return to NEWMAC action on Thursday. The Pioneers will travel to WPI for a 7 p.m. tip-off, while the Lions host Clark also at 7 p.m.
