In the NEWMAC opener for the Pioneers, first-year Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) came off the bench to score 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting in a 59-45 loss to Coast Guard on December 2, 2015. Smith limited Meghan Fornaro, the NEWMAC's leading scorer, to just 10 points. 

The Series
In a series that dates back to the 1989 season, this is the 40th meeting between these two schools. Smith leads the all-time series 20-19 and are 10-10 on the road. 

The Bears
Coast Guard (8-8, 5-3 NEWMAC) has lost three in a row after they droped a 78-54 decision to Babson on Sunday. In that game, senior Meghan Fornaro had a team-high 16 points, while freshman Micaela Martinelli had nine points and seven rebounds. Fornaro is the NEWMAC's leading scorer, averaging 19.3 points per contest, while Torie Sutherland is fourth in rebounds per game (9.0). The Bears average 61.0 points per game and are shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from 3-point range. Coast Guard was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll. 

The Pioneers
Smith (7-10, 4-5 NEWMAC) looks to bounce back from their 66-34 loss to MIT Saturday. In that game, the Pioneers were led by Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory)'s 14 points and four rebounds. First-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) leads the NEWMAC with 9.4 rebounds per game and is fifth in field goal percentage (49.4), while Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) (34.7%) is third in the conference from long distance. The Pioneers score 62.3 points per game and are shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from behind the arc. Smith was voted to finish fifth in the preseason coaches' poll.
