THE SERIES
The game marks the 32nd all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest in 1988 - a 3-1 Pioneers victory.

LAST MEETING
Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) and Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt./Milton) each scored during the final 3:34 of regulation to force overtime and then Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) netted the game-winner five minutes into the extra session to claim a 3-2 victory over MIT on October 17, 2015. The win snapped a seven game losing streak to the Engineers.

LAST MIT WIN
Two second-half goals by freshman Emily Penn lifted the MIT field hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Smith on October 18, 2014. Marissa Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) scored in the 13th minute for the Pioneers.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
MIT (9-2, 4-0) is one of only two NEWMAC teams still undefeated in conference play and is coming off a 5-0 win over Clark University. In that game, junior Emily Penn posted one goal and one assist, helping her become the sixth player in program history to reach 100 career points. Sophomore Bailey Tregoning powered the Cardinal and Gray with two goals as the Engineers finished with a 23-0 advantage in shots. Penn (14-3-31) ranks second in the NEWMAC in goals and third in points. Sophomore goalkeeper Cailey Talbot owns a 1.16 goals against average and .803 save percentage. Returning for the Cardinal and Gray will be all-conference selections senior back Jane Coffrin as well as junior midfielder Katie Notarangelo and Penn. MIT averages 3.0 goals per game and was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith (7-6, 3-2) returns to playing field after their 4-0 loss to No. 8 Babson last Saturday. In that contest, junior goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded a season-high 13 saves. Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) (5-2-12), senior Elsie Odhiambo (Oyugis, Kenya/Kisumu Girls School) (5-2-12) and Biggs (4-0-8) have combined to score six game-winning goals, while sophomore Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon) (1-4-6) leads the team in assists. Tietje, who leads the conference with 87 saves, has posted a 2.73 goals against average and a .757 save percentage this season. The Pioneers average 1.62 goals per game and were selected to finish fifth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
