THE SERIES
The game marks the 42nd all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest in 1989 - a 59-48 Coast Guard victory. The Bears lead 21-20 and have won the last two meetings.
LAST MEETING
First-year guard
Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) scored a career-high 23 points in the Pioneers' 75-65 loss to Coast Guard on January 27, 2016.
LAST SMITH WIN
Alyssa Barrett (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) and

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Coast Guard (2-2) enters tonight's NEWMAC opener after a 66-60 loss to Catholic on Sunday despite double-double performances from junior Jill Gerton and freshman Breanna Wood. The Bears must replace NEWMAC Player of the Year Meghan Fornaro and All-conference selection Torie Sutherland as the pair combined to average over 30 points per game last season and totaled 2,623 points and a program record 64 wins in their career. Junior Jill Bray and sophomore Jayla Joyner, who both started all 27 games last season, return in the back court. Coast Guard was ousted in the semifinals of the conference tournament by WPI, 48-32 a season ago. Gerton leads the Bears averaging 13.3 points per game and is ranked third in the NEWMAC with 9.3 rebounds per game. Coast Guard was picked to finish sixth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith looks to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a 44-40 defeat to Williams on Sunday. In that game, the Pioneers led by as many as 15 points, but an 0-for-21 stretch in the fourth quarter allowed the Ephs to mount a comeback. Sophomore guard
Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) tied her career-high with 14 points and added nine rebounds. Sophomore guard
Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School) ranks in the top-10 of the NEWMAC in points per game (14.3) and rebounds per game (9.8). The Pioneers are 3-2 in conference openers over the last five years. Smith was selected to finish fifth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
