THE SERIES
The game marks the 44th all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest in 1989 - a 64-57 WPI victory. The Engineers lead 25-18 and swept all three games last season.

LAST MEETING
First-year Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) poured in 15 points for the Pioneers but it was not enough as WPI advanced to the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals with a 54-47 victory over seventh-seeded Smith on February 24, 2016.

LAST SMITH WIN
Senior captain Lauren Weston (Florence, Mass./Northampton) scored eight points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds while the Pioneers were perfect from the free-throw line in the last minute of the game as Smith earned a 45-40 comeback win over WPI on February 18, 2015. The Pioneers were down by as many as nine points late in the second half.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
After dropping their first game of the season, WPI (7-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) has won seven-straight after their 58-37 rout of Wheaton Saturday afternoon thanks to a combined 32 points from junior Ama Biney and senior Priscilla Dunphy. Biney, who averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals in a 2-0 week for the Engineers, was tabbed the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week, Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women's Co-Player of the Week, and  was selected as a member of the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. The Engineers return 13 veterans from a team that won the NEWMAC Championship a season ago. Biney (18.3 pts, 5.9 reb), the league's second leading scorer, is shooting 61.2 percent from the floor, Dunphy averages 10.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and junior guard Stasha Greenalch dishes out 4.0 assists per contest. WPI was picked to finish first in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith (4-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) hosts their final home game of the first semester tonight against WPI. The Pioneers look to rebound from a 74-65 loss to Babson Saturday afternoon. In that game, senior Mandy Castro (San Diego, Calif./Poway) and sophomores Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School) and Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) all scored in double figures. Guest-Pritchett ranks in the top-5 of the NEWMAC in points per game (14.2) and rebounds per game (9.7). Hanley is averaging 11.2 points, 6.3 rebounds per game while Castro leads the team with 3.8 assists per contest. The Pioneers have the league's fifth-highest scoring offense averaging 67.0 points per game while the defense allows 47.3 points per contest. Smith was selected to finish fifth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
