NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The postseason gets underway for the Smith College basketball team when the No. 7 seed Pioneers (10-14, 7-9) travel to Worcester to play No. 2 seed WPI (21-4, 13-3) Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The winner will meet either #3 Coast Guard or #6 Wheaton in the semifinals on Saturday, February 27. 

After going 15-1 in conference play, Babson received a first-round bye and will host the semifinals and championship game Saturday and Sunday.

The Series
WPI leads the all-time series 24-18. These two teams have met five times in the postseason: 1996, 1997, 2007, 2011 and 2012. The Pioneers have won the last two postseason matchups against the Engineers. 

The Engineers
WPI enters the postseason having lost three of their last four games. The Crimson and White are third nationwide in points allowed per game (45.1). Ama Biney leads the Engineers in points and rebounds, averaging 11.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg. WPI averages 58.8 points and are shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from three-point range. 

The Pioneers
Smith enters the playoffs on a season-high four-game win streak after their 74-66 win over Clark on Saturday.  First-year Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) leads the NEWMAC with 9.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 50.0 percent from the field, while Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) ranks third in the conference from behind the arc (34.7). The Pioneers score 62.7 points per game and are shooting 37.2 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from long distance.
