Last Meeting

Sophomore guard Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School) scored a season-high 18 points in Smith's 65-48 loss at WPI on January 14, 2016. The Pioneers cut the Engineers' lead to 12 with an 8-2 spurt as Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) accounted for the first six and first-year Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) topped it off with a layup with 3:05 left in the first half.

The Series
This is the 41st meeting in a series that dates back to the 1989 season with WPI holding a 23-18 advantage. The Pioneers won both meetings with WPI last season and Smith is 11-8 playing at home.

The Engineers
WPI (18-1, 10-0 NEWMAC) equaled the school record held by the 1982-83 squad for consecutive wins (16) with their 54-35 victory against MIT Saturday afternoon. In that game, Priscilla Dunphy amassed a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. The Engineers, who are receiving votes in the most recent D3hoops.com poll, are second nationwide in points allowed per game. Ama Biney leads WPI in points and rebounds, averaging 11.1 ppg and 5.5 rpg. The Engineers average 60.1 points and are shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 26.2 percent from 3-point range. WPI was picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll.

The Pioneers
Smith (7-12, 4-7 NEWMAC) looks to snap a three game losing streak after their 83-74 overtime loss to Wheaton on Saturday. In that game, Bondi matched her career-high with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 4-for-8 from long distance. Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep), Tia Karapoulios (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) and Paige Marquez (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Preparatory) each finished in double-figures for the Pioneers. Guest-Pritchett is second in the NEWMAC with 9.2 rebounds per game and is shooting 49.5 percent from the field, while Bondi ranks third in the conference in 3PT percentage (37.2). The Pioneers score 63.1 points per game and are shooting 36.8 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from behind-the-arc. Smith was selected to finish fifth in the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll.
