Pioners Fall to Emerson on Senior Day

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Despite six goals from sophomore Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy), the Smith College lacrosse team dropped a NEWMAC contest to Emerson College, 19-11, Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, the Lions improve to 6-3, 2-0 while the Pioneers fall to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Prior to the game, Smith honored their three seniors: Bethany Claps (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy), Ray Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) and Erinn Summers (Salt Lake City, Utah/Highland).

Emerson wasted little time, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first 16:31 of play. 

Gigi MacDonald (Newton, Mass./Newton Noth) found the back of the net at the 13:27 mark for the Pioneers for their first score of the game. After two more goals by the Lions, sophomore Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) closed out the scoring by tallying two of her own, sending Smith into the half trailing 9-3. 

Hamilton wasted little time in the second half, tallying her 28th goal of the season 1:43 into the second half and closed the margin to five goals (11-6) at the 22:42 mark. Emerson finished strong, scoring four of the game's last five goals.

Senior Ray Silveria (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) finished with two goals and two helpers, while Caroline Myran (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends School) and Katie Christensen (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) each added one.

Senior Guerin Morissette finished with five goals, while junior Meredith Weber and freshman Emily Quinn each added four for the visitors.

In goal, senior Victoria Kanaris earned the victory with an eight save effort. On the other end, sophomore Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was kept busy all day, recording 14 saves.

The Lions held a 41-21 advantage in shots, also adding a 18-13 edge on draw controls. 

The Pioneers host their fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, April 5 against the Owls of Westfield State.
