BABSON PARK, Mass. - Babson College breezed to its fifth consecutive shutout on Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over visiting Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action.

With the win, the Beavers are now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Smith drops to 1-2 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Dine Weick and junior Yagmur Akgul won 8-1 at number one over
Noa Dubin (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and
Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep), juniors Kylie Kam and Claire Foster picked up an 8-2 victory at number two against
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) and
Toula Sierros (Northampton, Mass./Williston Northampton) and the first-year duo of Tatiana Ramirez and Emily Roeper posted an 8-0 result at number three over the pair of
Leigh Johnston (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Punahou School) and
Kara Van Allen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Mattawan).
Akgul won the first set 6-0 before her opponent at number one singles retired, while Kam recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five against
Toula Sierros (Northampton, Mass./Williston Northampton). Weick was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at number three over
Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) and Roeper dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number six against
Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif./South San Francisco).
Foster posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number four versus
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) and Ramirez closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number two against
Sam Peikes (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School).
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Nichols at 3:30 p.m., while Smith takes on Wheaton at 1 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers are 14-15 over their last 29 meetings against Smith going back to 1989. They have dominated the series as of late with 10 straight wins.
• Babson is 5-0 for the third straight year, and has won its first three NEWMAC matches for the fourth time in the last six years.
• The Beavers have won 16 of their last 18 matches in the month of September.
• Babson has swept all three doubles points against the Pioneers in six consecutive seasons.
