NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team dropped their match to Wheaton College Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. The 6-3 loss to the Lyons gives the Pioneers a 1-3 record on the season while Wheaton improves to 2-1.

The tandem of Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J./Academy for Information Technology) and Christine Yee (South San Francisco, Calif./South San Francisco) earned the only doubles win for the Pioneers, 8-2, in the No. 3 slot.
In singles competition, No. 3 Joanna Kim (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) knocked out Wheaton's competitor 6-4, 6-4 while Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) won her match (6-1, 6-3) at the No. 4 position.
The Pioneers compete again on Tuesday as they host Mount Holyoke for another NEWMAC contest at the Smith College Tennis Courts with action slated to begin at 5 p.m.
