THE SERIES
Smith and Wheaton College will meet for the 43rd time on Saturday afternoon in a series that dates back to 1980. The Lyons hold a 25-17 advantage all-time. The Pioneers snapped a 14-game losing streak in the 2012 meeting.
LAST MEETING
Alex Larosee (Warwick, R.I./Wheeler School)'s first career goal in the 55th minute put the Pioneers ahead of Wheaton 3-2 and stood up as the game-winner as Smith defeated the Lyons 7-2 on September 26, 2015.
LAST WHEATON WIN
Junior forward Kelsey Harris  scored the only goal of the afternoon to give Wheaton a 1-0 victory over Smith on September 27, 2014.
SCOUTING THE LYONS
Wheaton snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday with their 2-1 win over Simmons College. In that game, the Lyons overcame a one goal deficit with goals from Katie Peters and Hailey Kohler. Wheaton will be led by senior midfielder Amelia Gage, who was honored with a spot on both the NEWMAC All-Conference and National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region Second Teams. The Lyons welcome seven new faces to a team that returns 17 student-athletes. Junior forward Kelsey Buckley leads her team with six goals while goalkeeper Riley Thompson boasts a 3.53 goals against average and .657 save percentage. Wheaton was selected to finish seventh in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith goalkeeper
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) finished with 10 saves Tuesday as Williams College claimed a 3-0 non-conference win. First-year
Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown) and sophomore
Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) each registered defensive saves in the loss. Senior forward
Elsie Odhiambo (Oyugis, Kenya/Kisumu Girls School) was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week Monday and leads the Pioneers with four goals on the season. Tietje owns a 2.51 goals against average and .746 save percentage. Smith was picked to finish fifth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
