THE SERIES
The game marks the 66th meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest during the 1975 season - a 47-11 Smith victory. The Pioneers lead the series 38-27 and have won the last four meetings.
LAST MEETING
Samantha Alakai (Pukalani, Hawaii/Punahou School),
Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School) and
Meghan Holland (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prepatory) each scored in double-figures as Smith earned a 70-32 victory over Wellesley on February 17, 2016.
LAST WELLESLEY WIN
Sparked by hot second-half shooting, Wellesley downed Smith, 68-53, on December 7, 2013. Despite an aggressive Smith defense that forced 27 Wellesley turnovers, the Blue put the game out of reach in the second half by shooting an eye-popping 64% from the field, 67% from behind the arc.
SCOUTING THE BLUE
Wellesley (7-6, 3-4) rallied to within one-point of host MIT in the fourth quarter, but came up just short in their bid to defeat the Engineers, dropping a 47-44 final on Saturday afternoon. In that game, first year Emily Kopp led all players with 12 rebounds, helping the Blue to finish with a 39-35 edge in rebounding in the contest. First year guard Caitlin Aguirre leads Wellesley, averaging 10.6 points per game while senior forward Ailis Hanley pulls down 5.5 rebounds per game. The Blue average 49.5 points per game and were picked to finish 10th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
At 11-4 overall, Smith is off to their best start since the 2012-13 season. The Pioneers enter tonight's game after a 66-51 win over Coast Guard Saturday afternoon. In that contest, Smith outscored the Bears 34-16 en route to a 66-51 win. Sophomore forward
Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, Ga./The Lawrenceville School) recorded her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 23 points, 11 rebounds (six offensive) and three assists. Guest-Pritchett ranks in the top-6 of the NEWMAC in points per game (15.0) and rebounds per game (10.7) while sophomore guard
Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) is scoring 10.3 points per game and is second in the conference in field goal percentage (53.3%). Sophomore forward
Sydney Koh (Seattle, Wash. /Lakeside) continues to be a threat, shooting 43.6 from three-point range. Smith is the third-highest scoring team in the NEWMAC averaging 69.3 points per contest and was selected to finish fifth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
