THE SERIES
The game marks the sixth meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest during the 2014 season - a 62-55 Smith victory. Smith leads the series 4-1.
LAST MEETING
First-year forward
Kennedy Guest-Pritchett (Fairburn, GA/The Lawrenceville School) led the way for the Pioneers with 11 points and eight rebounds while senior forward
Tia Karapoulios (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) finished with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench as Smith went on for a 56-49 victory.
LAST EMERSON WIN
A breakout game from
Jade Chihara (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) led Smith to a near comeback, but the effort fell short in the final minutes as the Pioneers dropped a 66-61 decision to the Lions on January 31, 2015.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Emerson (11-13, 4-11) looks to close out the season with a win on Senior Day as the Lions were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with their 63-50 loss to Coast Guard Wednesday evening. In that game, Natalie
Busch led her team with 14 points and finished 6-for-15 from the floor, recorded a pair of rebounds and assists along with three steals while Charlie Boyle followed up with 10 points and was 4-for-10 on the floor and had a team-best eight rebounds. Boyle ranks 10th in the NEWMAC in points per game (12.5) and third in field goal percentage (51.9%). Emerson averages 60.1 points per game and was picked to finish eighth in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith (17-7, 9-6) looks to finish off the regular season on a four game win streak Saturday against Emerson. The Pioneers have secured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC playoffs with their 88-27 rout of Mount Holyoke Wednesday night. In that game, sophomore guard
Lauren Bondi (Burnaby, BC, Can./Notre Dame Secondary) finished with 18 points, five assists and five steals. Guest-Pritchett, who was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll this week, is the only player in the NEWMAC to rank in the top-5 in points per game (15.2), rebounds per game (10.2) and field goal percentage (50.8%). Sophomore guard
Erin Hanley (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prepatory) averages 10.2 points, 5.2 rebounds per game and is shooting 51.2 percent from the field while Holland leads the team with 2.7 assists. Sophomore guard
Sydney Koh (Seattle, Wash. /Lakeside) (39.2%) and senior guard
Mandy Castro (San Diego, Calif./Poway) (38.9%) rank in the top-5 of the NEWMAC in 3-PT field goal percentage. The Pioneers have the league's second-highest scoring offense averaging 68.5 points per game and were voted to finish fifth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
