A 5-0 run late in the second half proved to be the difference maker as the Smith College lacrosse team dropped a 14-10 decision to MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening. 

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) continued her impressive season as she finished with five goals and one assist. The sophomore is now two assists away from the single season record for assists in a season.
  • First year Bella Ferraro (Orange, Conn./Amity) totaled two goals both of which came on free position attempts. 
  • First year Sydney Garner (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) came away with five draw controls and tallied one goal.
  • Goalkeeper Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) made a season- high 21 saves.

MIT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Emily Young led all players with six goals and added four draw controls while Hannah Levy produced four goals and four groundballs.
  • In net, junior Eva Boal colleced nine saves for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Smith began the game with three straight goals over the course of the first seven minutes from Ferraro, Garner, and Harris. MIT responded with strikes by Ashley Masucci and Hannah Levy while Rayna Higuchi netted the tying score with 13:15 on the clock. After almost six minutes of scoreless action, the Pioneers broke the deadlock setting off an exchange of goals which was capped by Higuchi as time expired to make the score 6-6 at halftime.

Harris found the back of the net 4:34 into the second half which was answered by three consecutive MIT goals. Harris again kept Smith in the game but the Engineers went on a 5-0 run to seal the win. The Pioneers goals with under five minutes remaining in the second half for the 14-10 final. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Engineers finished the night with advantages in shots (39-25), groundballs (20-7), and draw controls (18-7). The Pioneers were more efficient with their free-position attempts as they went 5-of-9 while MIT was 4-of-12.
