Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) ripped a two run homer in the top of the first but the Pioneers fell to Williams Tuesday afternoon in non-conference softball actionThe Ephs topped the Pioneers 8-2 in Tuesday's opener and the two victories extended their win streak to 15 games.
The third inning was the Ephs' big inning in both games against Smith. They scored five times in the opener in the bottom of the third en route to the 8-2 win, then seven times in the third of the nightcap to erase a one-run deficit and take a 7-1 lead.Â
GAME 1: Smith 2 Williams 8
Smith took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener when Emma Kraus (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield/Dupon-Kraus Homeschool) smacked a double to center and Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) followed by launching a two-run home run to center.Â
The Ephs got one back in the second when starting pitcher Emma Corbett lined an RBI-single into the right-center field gap to score Casey Pelz, who had opened the inning by reaching on an error and took third on a single by Margo Beck.Â
In the five-run third, Jessica Kim led off with a double down the left-field line and took third on a single by Riley Salvo. Rebecca Duncan then lined a single down the line in left to tie the game. Alejandra Magan's sacrifice fly broke the tie. Later in the frame, Corbett smashd an RBI-double to right center and Kristina Alvarado had an RBI-single that made it 6-2.Â
That was it until the bottom of the sixth when Pelz crushed a two-run home run to left - her fourth of the season, to account for the final 8-2 score.Â
Williams had 13 hits in the victory. Kim was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Pelz was 2 for 2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Corbett was 2 for 2 with two RBI and a runs scored. She also earned the win from the circle, going the first four innings and giving up six hits and two runs while not walking a batter and striking out two.Â
GAME 2: Smith 1 Williams 9
In the nightcap, Smith again got on the board first when junior Caroline Eyman (Franconia, N.H./Profile Senior) scored on Snyder's single.
Alvarado drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the third and came around to score when Kim smashed her seventh home run of the season for a 2-1 Williams lead. Curt singled and mackenzie Murphy followed with a double to right center.Â
An error allowed Curt to score and Pelz followed with a two-run double to right for a 5-1 lead. Alvarado came up again and capped the frame with a two-run single to center.Â
Murphy homered in the fourth for an 8-1 lead and Curt doubled in the fifth, scoring on Conroy's single to right.Â
Murphy earned the win from the circle, throwing the final 3 2/3 innings and allowing just one hit. She did not walk a batter and struck out one. Dana Cohen pitched the first 2 1/3 innings.Â
Magana and Murphy were both 2 for 2 at the plate. Curt was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.Â
