Lacrosse Suffers NEWMAC Loss to Springfield

The Springfield College lacrosse team earned an impressive 13-2 victory over Smith College Wednesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomores Clelie Fielding (Francestown, N.H./High Mowing School) and Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) each tallied a goal for the Pioneers.
  • Junior Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy ) added an assist.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sarah Price (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) recorded five saves in the loss.

SPRINGFIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior attacker Kayla Schroeher led the Pride with six goals and two assists.
  • Junior attack Shelby Corsano totaled three goals and an assist while also collecting a team-best four draw controls.
  • Goalkeeper Gabby Anderson made five saves in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pride struck early and often gaining a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game on tallies from Corsano, Allie Goddard, Schroeher, and Kristen Steidler. The Pride would go one to score six more times to take an 11-0 advantage in halftime.

Schroeher added her fifth and sixth goals of the game in the second half before Fielding put the home squad on the board off a feed from Hamilton. Harris found the back of the net for her 48th goal of the season with under two minutes in regulation and the 13-2 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Springfield College held a 22-11 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, while securing 11 draw controls to the Pioneers' six. Both sides had 16 ground balls.

UP NEXT
Smith aims to earn their first conference win of the season Saturday when the Pioneers host Coast Guard. Prior to the game, Smith will honor their lone senior Quinn Lavigne (Portland, Maine/Portland).
