ALFRED, N.Y. - The Smith College soccer team lost to non-conference opponent Rochester, 1-0, at the Alfred University Tournament Sunday at Yunevich Field. The Pioneers dropped to 1-1 on the season while the Yellow improved to 2-0.
Sophomore forward
Reilly Sullivan (Keene, N.H./Keene) led the offense with two shots on goal. Both teams played a scoreless first half and it wasn't until the last three minutes of the second half when Rochester took advantage of a corner opportunity. Sophomore Emily Henry tallied her first of the season to lead her team to victory.
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) stopped 11 shots for the Pioneers while Madilynne Lee made five saves for Rochester.

Meghan Martin pushed the ball across the goalmouth and Emily Henry was touched it into the net.

- Rochester held a 21-8 advantage and a 6-5 edge in corners.
- The Pioneers started four rookies - Peyton McBride (Manchester, N.H./Goffstown), Kelly McKenna (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Jessica Matsuoka (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), and Hannah Kelsey (Hopkinton, N.H./Hamilton College).
- Smith falls to 0-3 all time against the Yellowjackets.

The Pioneers return will play their home-opener Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against UMass Dartmouth.
