SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- First-year Amy Hagen (Owings, Md./Northern) led the Pioneers with five kills and five digs.
- Sophomores Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) and Jody Huang (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) split setting duties, finishing with five and four kills, respectively.
- Senior Sakura Tamaki (New York, N.Y./Fiorello H. LaGuardia) totaled six digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Smith came out strong in the opening set, earning a 6-1 lead before the Lyons took over and ran away with the set 25-12.Â
SET 2
Unforced errors once again hurt the Pioneers in the second set, while Wheaton received solid serving from MacGregor, Houghton and Palomba who combined for six aces.Â
SET 3
With the third and deciding set tied at 14-14, Wheaton responded with a 3-0 run that saw kills by MacGregor and Cansler and another Houghton ace. The mini-run shifted the momentum in Wheaton's favor, as the Lyons never let Smith closer than three points the rest of the way.Â
