SERIES HISTORY

Wednesday's game will mark the first time Montclair State and Smith will square off. The two share one common opponent this season in Cortland. The Red Hawks recorded a 2-0 victory at home against the Red Dragons on September 8, while the Pioneers fell to Cortland, 4-1, in the championship game of the Caryl Newhof Classic on September 2.

The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to face fourth-ranked Tufts on Saturday, November 10 at Salisbury University in Maryland.

  • Montclair State (15-3) will be making their third consecutive appearance in the 2018 Division III NCAA Field Hockey Tournament after earning an at-large bid in 2018. 
  • The Red Hawks are coming off a shootout loss to The College of New Jersey in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament on October 31.
  • Senior Amber Haslett was selected Midfielder of the Year as MSU placed five players on the 2018 NJAC All-Conference Team (Victoria Rossi, Marissa Siconolfi, Nicole Andriani, and Elizabeth Cimilluca).
  • Haslett leads the Red Hawks with nine goals, eight assists for 26 points followed by Rossie's eight tallies.
  • Cimilluca's eight assists ranks first on the team.
  • Goalkeeper Nicole Andriani owns a 0.98 goals against average and .825 save percentage with 85 total saves in 2018.
  • Montclair State averages 2.00 goals per game and give up 1.06.

  • Smith (14-7) earned an automatic bid to this year's championship after capturing their first-ever NEWMAC Championship on Saturday with a 2-1 OT win over MIT. 
  • All three of Smith's NEWMAC Tournament wins were decided by that 2-1 margin as the Pioneers defeated sixth-seeded Mount Holyoke in the first round and No. 2 seed Springfield in semifinals. 
  • Senior Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after her superior play throughout the tournament's three games.
  • Junior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) netted the equalizer and senior Alex Larosee (Warwick, R.I./The Wheeler School) scored the game-winner for the Pioneers, who return to the national tournament for the first time under head coach Jaime Ginsberg.
  • Chaudoin was selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference first team, while Pavlov earned second team honors for the first time in her career.
  • Pavlov leads the team with 11 goals and 26 points followed by junior Anna Ballou's (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) six goals and a team-best seven assists.
  • First-year goalkeeper Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) has 76 saves on the season with a .691 save percentage.
  • Smith is averaging 2.76 goals per game while giving up 1.61 per contest.
