NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team dropped its home opener in three sets (4-25, 18-25, 19-25) to Amherst on Friday night. The Pioneers moved to 0-4, while the Mammoths start the season 1-0.
NOTABLES
- Sophomore Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex./St. Dominic Savio Catholic) posted a team-high eight kills, hitting .353 while sophomore Claire Cicchetti (Menlo Park, Calif./Woodside)Â added five kills, three digs, and two service aces.
- Junior setter Kimani Freeman (Newark, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) recorded a team-best 10 assists followed by senior Helena Wiatrowski's (Winchester, Mass./Winchester)Â four assists.
- Junior Jody Huang (Cranston, R.I./Cranston) finished with eight digs.
- The Mammoths hit .413 for the match compared to Smith's .000 hitting percentage.
- Amherst improves to 31-17 all-time against the Pioneers.
