CLERMONT, Fla. -
Tyler Feeney (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Regional) registered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning to five the Smith College softball team a 4-3 win over Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers fell to University of Northwestern in the first game, 3-1. Smith is now 3-3 on the year.
GAME 1: UNW 3, SMITH 1
- The Eagles jumped out to an 1-0 lead as Ellie Ronning's RBI single up the middle scored Sara Wood.
- Smith tied things up in the third when Emma Kraus (Wakefield, Mass./Dupon-Kraus Homeschool) crossed home plate on Alyssa Pioggia's (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow) ground out.
- Northwestern added two insurance runs in the fourth for the 3-1 final.
- Eryn Lee (Saratoga, Fla./Saratoga) led the Pioneers offensively going 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Makena Wagner (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
GAME 2: SMITH 4, UPG 3 (8 INNINGS)
- Madison Hollis doubled to center, scoring Tayjah White to put the Bobcats on the board in the third.
- An inning later, Lydia DeAngelo's (Portsmouth, R.I./Moses Brown) double allowed Lee and Pioggia to touch home, giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. DeAngelo reached home on a fielding error in left for a 3-1 score.
- Pitt-Greensburg got runs back in the sixth and seventh to send the game to extras.
- In the eighth with DeAngelo on third, Feeney ripped a line drive to single for the game-winner.
- Jess Flohr earned the complete game win, allowing three runs on seven hits.
- Lee collected two hits and DeAngelo recorded two runs and two RBI.
UP NEXT
The Pioneers will take Wednesday off and return to action on Thursday against Wesleyan (11:30 a.m.) and Bowdoin (1:45 p.m.).
