NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Springfield College lacrosse game ended the first-half on a four-goal run en route to a 14-7 victory over Smith College Wednesday evening in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup. Smith drops to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Pride have won three straight and improve to 6-6, 2-2.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) totaled two goals, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
- Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) added two goals in her return from injury.Â
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon)Â stopped 11 shots and collected four ground balls.
SPRINGFIELD HIGHLIGHTS
- Kate Sarnacki recorded a career-best nine points on four goals and five assists.Â
- Taylor Pichel finished with four first-half goals.
- Taylor Kane had a game-high six draw controls.
- In net, Brenna Keefe had nine saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Katie Campbell and Taylor Pichel opened up the scoring for the Pride to jumpahead 2-0 in the first 4:24.
Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) cut the lead in half on an unassted tally, but Sprinfield responded with two more goals for a 4-1 advantage. After an unassisted goal by Harris at the 16:30 mark, Springfield rattled off four consecutive goals to make it 8-2 with 2:48 left in the half.
Liz Lee (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) converted her free position attempt with 11 seconds remaining as the teams headed into halftime with the visitors ahead 8-3.
The Pride came out of halftime scoring four of the next five goals for a 12-5 margin but Smith stayed in the game as Biggs and Brynn Murray found the back of the net to come within 12-7 with 9:17 on the clock. Springfield added two more goals for the 14-7 final.
The Pride owned a 30-19 advantage in shots, a 12-11 margin in draw controls, and 18-16 edge in ground balls.
