NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Framingham State University rattled off four unanswered goals to start the second half as it went on to defeat Smith College, 12-4, in non-conference lacrosse action Wednesday night. The Rams improve to 8-3 on the year, while the Pioneers dip to 7-3 overall.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) finished with two goals, three caused turnovers, and five ground balls.
- Kaitlin Chiu (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Maddie Ryan (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) each contributed one goal.
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made six saves in the loss.
FSU HIGHLIGHTS
- Alissa Marino contributed a hat trick.Â
- Grace Gamache, Jenna McMahon, and Jenna Palermo totaled two goals each.
- Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath posted five saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hanna McMahon put FSU on the board 1:16 in the game before Gamache doubled the visitors lead at the 22:48 mark. Chiu ended the shutout as she took a pass from
Clelie Fielding (Francestown, N.H./High Mowing) and found the back of the net. The Rams would go on to score four the game's next five goals to end the half with a 6-2 advantage.Â
Framingham State opened the second period on a 4-0 run before
Maddie Ryan (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) slipped the ball past the FSU keeper. Two more goals from the visitors with under eight minutes in the match put the Rams up 12-3. With 21 seconds remaining, Biggs scored for the home squad to make it a 12-4 final.
FSU ended the night with advantages in shots, 25-11, and draw controls, 12-6. Smith held a 25-24 edge in ground balls.
