NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Led by a game-high six goal effort from Georgia Salvatore, the Babson College lacrosse team defeated Smith College, 19-5, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Beavers move to 7-3 overall and remain perfect in conference plat 3-0. The Pioneers slip to 7-4 with a 1-2 mark in the NEWMAC.
SMITH HIGHLIGHTS
- Maddie Ryan (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) led the offensive effort for the Pioneers, totaling three goals.
- Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass./Northampton) recorded one goal, one assist, five draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Schams (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) made a career-high 18 stops.
BABSON HIGHLIGHTS
- In addition to her six goals, Salvatore added four assists and three ground balls.
- Valerie Quinlan finished with three goals, one assist, and six draw controls.Â
- The Beavers had seven more student-athletes register goals.
- Goalkeeper Cricket Fligor made five stops.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Babson got off to a hot start, taking a 3-0 advantage less than five minutes into the game. Smith responded with back-to-back goals from
Maddie Ryan (Scituate, Mass./Scituate). After two more goals from the Beavers made the score 5-2, Biggs added an unassisted tally at the 10:47 mark. From that point, Babson closed the half with six unanswered goals for an 11-3 halftime lead .
In the second half, the visitors kept pouring in goals, eventually making it 16-3 with 20:23 to play, before Reese Gittelmen ended the run with an unassisted strike with 14:46 on the clock. Babson would go on to score three of the game's next four goals for the 19-5 final.Â
The Beavers held advantages in shots (41-16), ground balls (18-12), and draw controls (16-10).
