NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team used a balance attack to defeat Westfield State, 3-1, in a non-conference win on Friday in the opening game of the 2021 Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament. The victory improves the Pioneers to 19-7 overall this season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

• The Pioneers dismissed the Owls in four sets, 28-26, 25-13, 20-25, 25-7 four their seventh win in eight games
• Abby Sweeney (Spring, Tex./Klein) led the pioneers with 15 kills to go along with five blocks and two digs
• Ava Zollinger (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) had 10 kills and eight total blocks while Olivia Smith (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) added 11 kills and 11 digs
• Nathalie Pak (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) finished with 18 assists and four service aces to spark the attack while Gabby Beckman (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) led the way with 14 digs

Smith will face Hamilton (12:00 p.m.) and Bates (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
