NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team saw three Pioneers win individual events in their season-opening dual meet against Springfield College Wednesday evening. The Pride edged out the Pioneers, 170-109.
SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
- Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre Global Academy) picked up a win in the 200 free in 2:02.20, while Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) did the same in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.26.
- Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) notched a victory in the 500 free with a time 5:17.81
- In the opening race of the night, Emily Woo Kee (El Paso, Tex./Coronado), Abby McIlraith (Portland, Ore./Sunset), Kolmodin and Petrino swam to a third place finish in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.40
- Elizabeth Kidder (Hilton, NY/Hilton) touched the wall third in the 100 back with a time of 1:06.13, while Elisabeth Nesmith (Danville, Ky./Danville) had the same result in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.96
- Kolmodin (26:02) and Katherine Wehrman 27:05) posted second and third place finishes in the 50 free
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
- Hannah Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) placed third on the 1-meter board with a score of 167.00 and received a score of 160.20 on the 3-meter
Earning first place for Smith was
Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre Global Academy) in the 200 free (2:02.20),
Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) in the 100 breast (1:12.26), and
Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) in the 500 free (5:17.81).
