Volleyball Splits Road Tri-Match Versus Wheaton and WNEU

NORTON, Mass. - The Smith College volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Wheaton but responded with a 3-1 victory over Western New England University in a road tri-match Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers record now stands at 8-3 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

  • First-year Abby Sweeney (Spring, Tex./Klein) finished with eight kills and three blocks
  • Classmate Lilly Mearsheimer (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) added 16 assists while first-year Nathalie Pak (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) added 14
  • Defensively, junior Gabby Beckman (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) led the way with 11 digs

  • Sweeney again led the Smith offense with 10 kills as Sarah Dankovich (El Paso, Tex./Coronado) chipped in with nine
  • Junior Ava Zollinger (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) finished with a career-high nine blocks 
  • Pak totaled 21 assists while Beckman added 13 digs
